What to expect at Haphazard 2024! A Q&A with the creators

Not been to Haphazard before and want to know what to expect? We asked the creators, John and Tamsin from Word of Warning all about it!

What is Haphazard all about? It’s a free, all ages day of Live Art or to put it simply, slightly crazy performance and big images happening all over the building.

Who can come to Haphazard? Absolutely anyone and everyone – from toddlers to their grandparents – we try to put it together so that there’s something there that everyone will get.

What was the inspiration behind Haphazard? Actually hearing kids explain sited Live Art in the City Centre to their parents – and realising that sometimes they just get it in a way that adults don’t!

How did you put Haphazard together? We invite artists to come up with ideas for literally every space in the building – be it the theatre or a toilet – we then take those ideas and try to stitch together a programme that works. It’s a day where you can explore multiple spaces, indulge your curiosity and come across different stuff – wherever you go.

What is your favourite thing about Haphazard? The kids getting the adults just to let go and open themselves up to ideas.

What can audiences look forward to? There’ll be a singing prawn, zimmer frame acrobatics, and a dancing wizard. You can make a map with a wookie, have a failed artist paint you a picture or don a wig and join in Latvian circle dancing.

Describe Haphazard in three words. Quirky, chaotic, fun.

Give three reasons why families should come along to Haphazard this year at Z-arts? It’s a free day out for the curious of all ages – and it’s like nothing else anywhere.
