Trailblazer was a map that showcased Manchester’s most family-friendly venues. It was designed by local teenagers working with illustrator Stephen Nuttall.
The team of young people worked with venues in the Manchester Family Arts Network to advise on the events and activities that they would like to see and take part in. They then collaborated with Stephen, putting together a user-friendly introduction to the city’s arts and cultural venues, designing characters to represent each venue.
There were two versions of the map, one designed for teenagers to do independently and a second one for younger children (aged 5-12 years) to follow with their families. Younger children who complete the trail could receive an Arts Award, a qualification run by Trinity College, London to help children develop their creative, communication and leadership skills.
The map featured all current members of the Manchester Family Friendly Arts Network. They were The Bridgewater Hall, The Edge, Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester Museum, People’s History Museum, The Whitworth and Z-arts.
