Space to Speak
Space to Speak is a dance and well-being project presented by Company Chameleon in partnership with Z-arts in Manchester.
The project sees young people using dance and movement to express and speak out about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences of life in lockdown and during the pandemic.
Company Chameleon’s dance artists are working with young people from Trinity High School on the project, which involves a series of workshops and the creation of two new pieces of choreography. The pieces will premiere and be performed by Company Chameleon and the young people at Hulme Is Where the Art Is, a free festival in Manchester on Saturday 26 June 2021.
Company Chameleon’s Co-Artistic Director, Kevin Edward Turner, is leading the project, he said: “This project gives the young people involved, the opportunity to reflect on the past year and the time to digest, understand and express their emotions. In going through this process, we hope the young people feel more supported in their overall wellbeing and in moving forward with a positive mindset.”
As part of Space to Speak, Company Chameleon and Z-Arts are also offering a contemporary dance group inspired by the project. Taking place over the May half term, young people will learn dance and movement from the project, which inspire the creation of their own dance performance, to also be performed as part of the festival in June.
