CBBC Musical Storyland LIVE!
Join international storyteller Jan Blake, djembe player Yahael Onono and musicians from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for an interactive performance of Ananse and the Monkeys for 5 – 7 year olds.
Ananse needs some money to buy food so makes some hats to sell but on his way to the market, some monkeys steal them! Can Ananse outwit the monkeys to get his precious hats back?
Jan Blake specialises in folktales and myths from the Caribbean, West Africa, North Africa, and the Arab regions.
The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra rehearses as its home in MediaCity, Salford and performs in venues across the North of England, annually at the BBC Proms and internationally.
How about getting to know the stories in Musical Storyland, a multi-award winning series from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, made especially for CBeebies and BBC Teach.
Musical Storyland is a unique series of films that gives children the opportunity to see and hear every instrument of the Western orchestra, plus a number of instruments from other traditions such as the guzheng, n’goni, djembe, calabash, and tabla.
The stories are narrated by engaging storytellers, with the musical instruments playing an integral part in each story.
The films are accompanied by lesson plans and programme guides that are devised to cover a range of musical skills and experiences, as well as wider curriculum subjects, for children between the ages of 3 and 7. There are watching and listening guides (particularly useful for non-specialist teachers) and activities for the classroom.
Visit BBC Teach to watch the films and explore the teaching resources.
If any of your group has any access requirements or needs a space for a wheelchair, please contact us at education@z-arts.org.
