Following critically acclaimed runs in the UK and New York, Red Bridge Arts and the Traverse Theatre Company are bringing Black Beauty to Z-arts for Christmas 2018!
Andy and Andy have fallen on hard times. When they discover their beloved copy of Black Beauty in the cosy horse trailer they call home, they saddle up with their horse Hamish and re-enact portions of this classic, page-turning adventure! Black Beauty blends puppetry and music to create an uplifting and hilarious festive family treat, full of fun, adventure, friendship, courage, hope and heroes.
Bringing both the Andys and Hamish to life are John Currivan and Paul Curley who play the roles of Andy and Andy and Hamish’s head and tail. Dave Trouton is the Composer and sound designer and Simon Wilkinson is the Lighting Designer. With two wins for Best Design and Best Production for Children, and five nominations including Best Director and Best New Play by the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland, children and families can gallop along to a festive day at Z-arts this December to enjoy this fun-filled twist on Anna Sewell’s classic.
Z-arts will also be running their festive appeal again this year for children in Manchester with experience of being in care. Audiences and visitors can donate money in order to provide free tickets to children in Greater Manchester who may not be able to otherwise visit the theatre. £6 covers the cost of a child’s ticket, £12 covers the cost a carer’s ticket, and £2 covers the cost of an ice cream.
