Z-arts appoints BBC Editor Sue Roberts as new Chair

PRESS RELEASE

Z-arts looks to the future in providing vibrant and inclusive arts for Manchester’s children and families with new appointment.

Z-arts, 335 Stretford Road, Manchester, M15 5ZA

Z-arts has appointed a new chair Sue Roberts, as Kully Thiarai ends her successful term, moving to National Theatre Wales.

Sue Roberts, BBC Editor Audio Drama and The Verb will take on the new role as Chair at Z-arts marking the next step on its journey as Manchester’s leading venue for children and families.

Commenting on the appointment, Sue said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Z-arts as Chair. It’s a vital, vibrant place doing extremely important work with flair and style and a very committed team of people.

As well as serving audiences and the community around them, Z-arts offers a rich programme of events and activities for a wider audience. It is also breaking new ground in its work for families through the Manchester Family Arts Network, With exciting plans for the coming few years, it’s a great time to be joining this warm and welcoming place . I’m looking forward to being part of the developing story.”

After re-branding in 2012 to Z-arts, the one-hundred year old building has played a significant role in developing Manchester’s cultural offer for children and families, in one of the least culturally engaged areas in the city.

The year-round creative programme and Bright Sparks membership scheme engages and enables local communities and artists, builds audiences and embraces those who do not yet see what role the arts may play in their lives.

Participation and grassroots work is core to the venues artistic strategy, as cultural democracy leads the way for audiences to see their own stories on stage and work for children and families reflective of the society we live in today.
